Queensland member Lisa Lions shares her passion for interior design, decorative objects and home styling.

If home is where the heart is, then Lisa and Jeremy Lions’ home is a house full of love. “I’ve always loved having a happy home and a welcoming home,” says Lisa, who has brought this philosophy to life through interior design and a calming colour palette of earthy and neutral tones.

While revamping their home is a passion project first and foremost, the Queensland-based pair are a formidable duo when it comes to renovating, with Jeremy lending his construction expertise and Lisa leading the charge on styling and decorative decisions.

Style & function

Their latest project started two years ago, which Lisa started documenting on Instagram as a hobby, outside of her job as a sales manager in the car industry. “My husband and I are the kind of people who can’t sit still,” Lisa says. “We are always painting or doing something and [our home] is evolving with us.”

At this home, the evolution has taken the form of a modern bohemian style. “I’ve always been someone who’s afraid of colour, but in this home, I’ve introduced [it] and gone for warmer tones to give a more relaxed atmosphere about the place,” Lisa says.

However, functionality is just as important as decoration, according to Lisa. “The veranda and the backyard are probably our two most favourite places in the house,” she says. “And quite often, I’ll come home and find my husband asleep on the deck upstairs.” The couple also have a weekly ritual, “charcuterie Friday”, which is hosted with friends on the deck (when said husband is not sleeping, of course!).

Love your space

The enjoyment of their home takes inspiration from beyond its four walls too. “I am definitely about bringing the outdoors inside as part of a living space.” For Lisa, this means adorning interiors with plenty of indoor plants and greenery, as well as a neutral colour palette inspired by nature.

As for Lisa’s advice when it comes to interiors and styling, she suggests simply choosing things you will enjoy looking at. “Just don’t be afraid. If you like something, you can incorporate it. You do not have to stick to a particular trend. Go with what you really love and makes you happy.”

Local warehouse:

Ipswich, QLD.

Best thing about Costco:

I love that when I visit the warehouse, I never know what I’m going to walk out with. We always get household basics, such as food, but I also enjoy the home section. I love the variety and that it’s ever-changing.

Favourite items:

I love Christmas, and a few years ago, I brought a tree for work [from Costco]. It’s my favourite decorative object and I enjoy every year when I get to put the Christmas tree up. I just love the variety and that there is always something new.
