How do I renew my membership?
Updating your membership
At Costco, updating your membership is easy. There are two simple options, and you can choose whichever is most convenient for you: at one of our warehouses or online. At the warehouse, you can either visit the membership counter or add it to your shopping bill at the registers. If you’d prefer to update online, we explain the steps below.
You won’t receive a new membership card each time you renew, so hold onto your old one. If you need a new or replacement card, request one at your local warehouse’s membership counter.
The convenience of auto renewal
Take the hassle out of renewing your membership by turning on auto renewal. We’ll automatically update your card on the day that it expires, giving you the convenience of a card that’s always valid. We’ll remind you of this payment before your renewal is due and we’ll contact you to confirm if it’s successful.
To access the auto renewal feature, log in to your online account then visit "My account payment methods". Fill in your credit or debit card details if they’re not saved, then activate auto renewal by clicking the "Off" button to "On".
Your payment details are encrypted, so rest assured that no one can see, use or alter anything except for you. If you decide against auto renewal, you can turn it off at any time.
Renewing your membership before or after it expires
Memberships renewed within two months before expiration will be extended for a further 12 months from the expiration date. For example, if your membership expires in December 2022 and you renew in November 2022, your membership will be valid from December 2022 to December 2023.
Memberships updated within two months after expiration will result in your membership being valid from that expiration date of that year until that same date the following year. For example, if your membership expires in December 2022, but you don’t renew until February 2023, your expiry date will remain in December 2023 and won’t extend to February 2023.
Memberships renewed more than two months after expiration will be extended for 12 months from the renewal date. For example, if your membership expires in December 2022 and you don’t renew until March 2023, your membership will be valid from March 2023 until March 2024.
